Rizwan Ahmed,one of the accused in the murder of former MLA and BSP leader Sarvesh Singh Seepu,on Saturday surrendered before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Azamgarh district.
With this,the total number of accused in former MLAs murder case,who are currently in judicial custody,has gone up to three.
Sarvesh and his acquaintance,Bharat Rai,were shot by unidentified persons outside his house in Jiyanpur area of Azamgarh on July 19. Their murders had led to violent clash between the police and the public,in which three persons were killed in alleged police firing.
A total of seven FIRs have been registered in the matter. The Inspector Incharge of Jiyanpur police station,Vijay Singh,who is also a named accused in the FIR,was suspended after the incident.
Confirming the development,Azamgarh Superintendent of Police (Rural) K K Chowdhary said: Rizwan today surrendered before the court in the murder case and was sent to judicial custody. The process to bring the other accused,Sangram Singh,to Azamgarh is on.
Both Rizwan and Sangram had been named in the FIR as people who were involved in the conspiracy. Those who opened fire at Sarvesh Singh are unnamed in the FIR.
Chowdhary said that two accused had a few criminal cases against them and were allegedly close to the main accused named in the FIR,Dhruv Singh alias Kuntu Singh,who is a gangster.
Incidentally,Kuntu Singh,currently lodged in Varanasi jail,had been brought to the district court in Azamgarh on Friday in connection with another case of kidnapping.
He had also been brought to Azamgarh for hearing in a case on July 19,when Sarvesh was murdered.
Sangram Singh was allegedly found travelling without ticket aboard an express train by the railway staff and handed over to the Railway Protection Force personnel in Kanpur on July 30.
Subsequently,he was produced before a Railway magistrate and sent to Naini Central Jail. police teams investigating the murder case came to know about the said arrest only on Friday.
Subsequently,the police officials in Azamgarh filed an application in the district court on Friday for bringing Sangram Singh in their remand from Kanpur.
An application has been moved in court. He might be brought here by Monday, said Chowdhary.
Heeding to the demand of Santosh Singh,elder brother of Sarvesh,the state government has announced that the matter would be probed by the CBI.
