Lal Bahadur Yadav, accused in the recent murder of Assistant Engineer Manoj Kumar Singh in Gorakhpur, was arrested by GRP in Kanpur on Thursday.

Lal Bahadur Yadav, accused in the recent murder of Assistant Engineer (AE) Manoj Kumar Singh in Gorakhpur, was arrested by GRP in Kanpur on Thursday.

Following a tip-off,the GRP team arrested Yadav from Gorakhdham Express at the Kanpur central railway station. A resident of Gorakhpur’s Chhirvataal village,Yadav was trying to escape to Delhi.

Singh was posted as AE in the Irrigation department (Flood Division) in Kushinagar district. On August 2,he was shot dead by two youths while he was coming out of Executive Engineer B P Singh’s residence.

Initially,a case of murder was registered against unidentified persons. Later,Gorakhpur police added the names of five persons — A K Chaudhary,Pankaj Sahi,Guddu,Deepak Upadhyay and Lal Bahadur Yadav — in the case. Chaudhary,Sahi,Guddu and Upadhyay have been arrested.

Yadav, however, denied all allegations. “I have no connection to the AE murder and was shocked when my name was added in the case. Due to professional rivalry, contractor Pankaj Sahi and Deepak Upadhyay have dragged my name in the controversy,” he said. Gorakhpur (City) ASP Banwari said Yadav was a small-scale contactor and has been involved in several criminal cases.
