More than a dozen Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers were hurt during a cane charge by police while they were marching towards the Assembly in Lucknow on Thursday in protest against the law and order situation in the state. Led by IYC (UP-east) president Maqsood Khan and IYC national secretary Mahesh Mordiya, hundreds of party workers were halted at the annexe crossing. As they scuffled with the police, some members tried to cross the barricades.

The police resorted to cane charge. Party leaders claimed that MLA Ajay Singh Lallu, who was present at the spot during the lathi charge, also sustained injuries. CLP leader Naseeb Pathan arrived and intervened. In his presence, the party workers handed over a 12-point memorandum addressed to the governor.
