It was the height of adulation when a she-leopard trapped in the Mirzapur forests and brought to the Lucknow zoo was named after film star Dia Mirza.
On Monday, the leopard and her family had a celebrity visitor,no less than the film star herself.
We had contacted her at the time the leopard was christened after her and even invited her to visit the zoo. Today, she obliged, said Lucknow zoo director Renu Singh.
The leopard Dia has been put together with her male counterpart Akbar Allahabadi and the pair has two cubs who were named Ashoka and Nakshatra by Dia on Monday.
There should be a campaign as effective as the save tiger project for leopards too, chirped the film star, whose film Hum Tum aur Ghost released last week. Would love to do a film on the theme of wildlife. The message given through movies reaches far, she said, denying categorically that she would ever join politics.
Her parting shot was the note she left in the guestbook for the zoo director: Renu ji,you rock. Great to say a woman like you on a top position,is what she said in praise of the lady heading the zoo. While exhorting government to take initiative for wildlife conservation and setting up bird sanctuaries, she suggested NGOs be roped in for the cause. In tune with the wild stint was her tweet before and after her Lucknow visit. Good mornin!!! Im going the lucknow zoo :-) to meet the cubs that have been born to a leopard named DIA MIRZA!!! Ha ha”
And after the visit, the tweet read:
Im pooped after my show… Lucknow has been so hot but so amazing! Show rocked!Good night angels! Sleep well n sweet dreams.
