Despite non-baiable warrant,it’s free roaming for BSP MLA

While Pratapgarh SP Mohit Agarwal said they had not received any orders from the court,Upendra Yadav,station officer of Antoo police station,said he had received the NBW and would take action after consulting senior officials.

The case dates back to November 21,1993 when Saurabh was contesting Assembly election as an Independent candidate from Gadwara constituency,which he now represents as a BSP MLA. On the polling day,Saurabh and one Vijay Kumar allegedly led a mob that disrupted polling and damaged ballot papers and ballot boxes at a polling booth at Kuwara. The police had to use force to bring the situation under control.

A case was lodged against Saurabh and Vijay at Antoo police station. Both were arrested and later released on bail. After investigation,the police filed chargesheet against them for rioting with deadly weapons and violation of various provisions of the People’s Representation Act. While Vijay Kumar appeared before the court,Saurabh never turned up in spite of summons.

Saurabh said he never received any notice from court. “Now I have come to know that NBW was issued against me and,on the next hearing,I will appear before the court,” said the MLA.

He alleged it was a false case lodged at the behest of a senior district administrative official whose relative was contesting the election against him.

“Since I was a strong candidate,the officer targetted me. In the clash that took place outside the polling booth,I was critically injured and was hospitalised in Lucknow for three months,” said Saurabh,claiming he didn’t know Vijay Kumar.
