CSMMU doctors remove 15 kg tumour

The doctors of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University’s Surgery Department successfully removed a malignant tumour weighing around 15 kg from the abdomen of a 42-year-old woman from Balrampur district.

The doctors of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University’s Surgery Department successfully removed a malignant tumour weighing around 15 kg from the abdomen of a 42-year-old woman from Balrampur district.

A team of four doctors,including Dr AA Sonkar,head of the surgery department,Dr Jitendra Kushwaha,Dr Satyabrata Mohanty and Dr Ajay,removed the ovarian tumour,developed in the right ovary of Divyawati,in an operation that went on for about three hours on Friday. A mother of six children,Divyawati was diagnosed with the tumour three months ago.

“It is a rare case wherein the tumour grew as large as 15 kg. The tumour was stuck to her intestine,causing vomiting and several other digestive problems for her and was life-threatening,” said Dr Mohanty.

Both her ovaries were removed in the surgery as she was developing a tumour in her left ovary as well,said Dr Mohanty. Since there is a chances of recurrence in malignant tumour,a followup session of chemotherapy will also be given to the patient,said Dr Mohanty.
