Crores in assets but minus PAN

Although the Election Commission had asked all candidates to mention their income-tax PAN in their affidavits,about 52 candidates in the fourth phase and 74 in the third phase have not declared their PAN.

Although the Election Commission had asked all candidates to mention their income-tax PAN in their affidavits,about 52 candidates in the fourth phase and 74 in the third phase have not declared their PAN. Among them include candidates whose assets are worth more than Rs 1 crore.

In the third phase candidates,Abdul Hadi Peace Party’s Bhadohi candidate has declared his total assets of Rs 1.82 crore but did not mention his PAN. Raj Narayan Singh,the Congress candidate from Obra,with assets worth Rs 1.66 crore,Apna Dal candidate from Mungra Badshahpur Jwala Prasad with assets worth Rs 1.34 crore,SP candidate from Malhani Paras Nath Yadav with total assets of Rs 1.31 crore,BSP candidate from Jaunpur Tej Bahadur Maurya with the total assets of Rs 1.20 crore,and Qaumi Ekta Dal candidate from Bhadohi Jai Prakash with total assets of Rs 1.08 crore,have not declared their PAN.

In the fourth phase,Bundelkhand Congress candidate from Baberu Atul has declared the total assets of Rs 7.09 crore,but did not mention his PAN. SP’s Fatehpur candidate Syed Qasim Hasan with assets of Rs 2.28 crore,Congress’s Baberu candidate Shiv Shankar Singh Patel with the total assets of Rs 1.29 crore,Bundelkhand Congress’s Banda candidate Devraj Gupta with total assets of Rs 1.16 crore,Congress’s Babaganj candidate Suresh Bharti with assets of Rs 1.16 crore,SP’s Balamau candidate Anil Verma with total asset of 1.07 crore and JD(U) candidate from Bilgram-Mallawan Vidya Ram Verma with total assets of Rs 1.03 crore have not provided their PAN.

However,according to ADR and NEW analysis of the affidavits of 297 candidates who are in the fray in fourth phase of elections,as many as 103 candidates have declared criminal cases against them. Out of these 103 candidates have criminal cases against them,29 are from SP,25 from Congress,18 from BSP,11 from BJP and 7 are from the Peace Party. SP candidate from Lucknow,Central Ravidas Mehrotra,has a maximum of 17 criminal cases against himself,including 7 serious IPCs. Mehrotra is followed by SP candidate from Chitrakoot Veer Singh with 9 criminal cases and independent candidate from Kunda Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya.

According to the survey,about 139 candidates contesting the elections in the fourth phase are self-declared crorepatis. The candidates with the maximum assets are SP’s Manikpur candidate Shyam Charan Gupta with assets worth Rs 40.45 crore,BSP’s Kunda candidate Shiv Prakash Mishra Senani with assets worth Rs 30.05 crore,and BSP candidate from Vishwanathganj Sindhuja Mishra Senani with the assets worth Rs 30.05 crore.
