A court admitted a complaint against Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday for allegedly describing the newly-elected Congress MP and former bureaucrat P L Punia a “traitor”.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Jagdish Prasad Rajput, while admitting the complaint, directed Punia’s counsel Shiv Kumar Shukla to appear before the court to record his statement. The next date of hearing has been fixed on June 8.

Filing the complaint,Punia’s counsel Shukla alleged that Mayawati had defamed the MP by making derogatory and objectionable remarks against him during a party meeting held in Lucknow a couple of days ago. The BSP chief, during the national executive meeting held on May 20 had allegedly termed Punia a “traitor”.

Mayawati had allegedly said Congress would use Punia — who had served as the principal secretary to Mayawati during her earlier stint as chief minister — as an approver in the Taj Corridor case.
