Cops to probe AMU campus clashes

Within a week of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s meeting with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General (retd) Zameer Uddin Shah regarding law and order problems on campus,Aligarh police have swung into action.

DIG,Aligarh range,Prakash D has sent a list of such 10 cases to Aligarh SSP Amit Pathak and directed a thorough and impartial inquiry. Sources said the DIG has also directed the local intelligence unit to watch dubious outsider elements visiting the campus.

The DIG told The Indian Express that most of these cases were related to clashes among students. “A case of students’ clash with a shopkeeper and clash among student union members with the district administration are a few such cases. I have directed the SSP to investigate all these cases impartially and take strong action,” he said.

The DIG said he was in constant touch with the university administration and the police will give full support to the V-C in maintaining law and order.

According to sources,the cases include attempt to murder of a student,ruckus by three students at a petrol pump,a students’ clash and later a clash between students and districts administration staff. An incident of firing on campus injured two persons.
