The investigation into the August 5 clash between the supporters of two Congress leaders Union minister Shriprakash Jaiswal and legislator Ajay Kapoor in Kanpur has taken a new turn. The police has begun to probe the role of Circle Officer (CO) of Nazirabad,Arvind Mishra, who was investigating the case. The police have also shifted the case to Circle Officer of Seesamau after Mishra dropped the name of Kapoors elder brother Vijay from the case and instead added the name of Manoj Singh,a supporter of Jaiswal. Mishra, who has been accused of being biased to Kapoor, had also dropped the charges under SC/ST Act that were leveled by Jaiswal supporters against Kapoor and his men. This comes after Singh met DIG (Kanpur) Neera Rawat on Tuesday and told her that he was being falsely named in the case as he was not present at the CTI crossing on August 5 when the clashes took place. I have been made a scapegoat by the CO of Nazirabad as I was not even present at the spot, said Singh. Thereafter, the DIG sought a report from ASP (Kanpur West) D K Choudhary and the case was transferred to CO (Seesamau) Amarjeet Singh on Friday. Choudhary confirmed that a few anomalies had cropped up in the police investigation and a police team is probing the role of CO Nazirabad in the matter. On August 5,some supporters of Jaiswal clashed with supporters of Kapoor at CTI crossing under Govind Nagar police station. Later,Kishori Lal,a supporter of Jaiswal, registered a case against Vijay Kapoor,C P Pandey and Babloo, accusing them of thrashing him and his friends. Supporters of Kapoor were also booked under the SC/ST Act as Kishori Lal belongs to Scheduled Caste. In retaliation,Kapoors supporters lodged an FIR against six members of the Jaiswal camp on August 6 accusing them of attempting to robbery and disrupting the law and order at Govind Nagar police station.
