Congress banks on Central schemes to boost state cadres

As the political heat has started rising in the state ahead of the 2012 Assembly elections in the state

As the political heat has started rising in the state ahead of the 2012 Assembly elections in the state, the Congress party has decided to concentrate on strengthening and motivating its cadre at the grassroots level for the next few months. Apart from holding district-level workers’ meet to “educate” cadres on the “corrupt practices” in implementation of the Centrally-funded schemes in the state, party is busy preparing a booklet on the status of welfare schemes in the state. The booklet will have details of how the BSP government has failed to implement the Central schemes due to alleged large-scale corruption. The schemes which will be in focus include Jannani Suraksha Yojana,MGNREGA,Rastriya Swastha Bima Yojana, implementation of Right to Education Act.

Party leaders have been asked to collect information on the pending status of funds or misutilisation of Central funds. The party plans to distribute the booklet during the party workers meets in every district after the Holi.

The same booklet would also have details about initiatives taken by the Central government for welfare of various communities.

Sources in the party said that instructions have been given to the state unit as well as senior leaders of the state to be present during the workers’ meet and ensure that a large number of grass roots cadres attend them. So far, senior leaders like Mohsina Kidwai,Sriprakash Jaiswal,PL Punia,Rita Bahuguna Joshi,Raj Babbar etc have already addressed some workers in the state. The target is to hold about 400 meetings by end of April. So far, leaders have covered only 68 places and the rest have to be covered in next one and a half month.

“For a long time,we were busy with the organisational elections and did not get time to actually focus on the cadres, which had become inactive or were wasting their energy in groupism. So,we have kept everything aside and are concentrating on just two things — holding workers’ meet at district level, followed by a public meeting in every Assembly segment,” said a senior party leader.
