The results of the third semester of West Bengal’s Higher Secondary (HS) examination were declared on Friday, with the pass percentage reaching 93.72%, the highest since 2011. Last year, the pass rate stood at 90.79%.
Announcing the results 39 days after the exams concluded, state Education Minister Bratya Basu said, “The pass rate is 93.72%, which is the highest since 2011. My sincere congratulations and best wishes to the successful students. This is the first time in India that the examination was conducted in this manner (semester format), so I wish those who have achieved success further progress. Those who have not been so successful in this examination, do not be disappointed. With the fourth semester, you have another opportunity to succeed. I hope that in keeping with the new era, you will achieve success in every field of life and take the culture and heritage of Bengal further forward.”
There are 69 candidates in the top ten ranks of the merit list, of whom three are female students. Ritham Vallabh and Adityanarayan Jana from Purulia Ramakrishna Mission jointly topped the list with 98.97 percent. Both are pursuing the subjects of Bengali, English, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, and Computer Science.
Dipanwita Pal from Daulatpur High School in Dakshin Dinajpur secured the highest marks among female students with 98.4%, placing her fourth overall. Rehan Rizvi of Abdul Motalek High Madrasa stood fifth with 98.38 percent, while commerce student Ghulam Faizal of AP DEPET Calcutta Madrasa secured the eighth position with 97.5 percent.
Chiranjeev Bhattacharya, President of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, said, “The reason for organizing the exam on OMR sheets was to prepare the students for competitive exams. It appears that two schools are doing well in this exam, because of the preparation of the students of that school. But overall, the candidates did not do well. They need more preparation.”
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated the successful candidates on X, writing, “My sincere congratulations to all the students who have succeeded in the third semester of the Higher Secondary Examination today. Congratulations to your parents and teachers as well. For the first time in the country, the Higher Secondary Examination was conducted in a semester system. I would like to thank everyone involved for organizing this grand event properly. I would say to those who were unable to get good results this time, don’t get discouraged and try to get good results in the fourth semester.”
