General secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee,Dal Bahadur Kori, who appeared for the UP Board Class X examinations at the age of 53,passed with first division and distinction in two subjects on Tuesday. He had appeared for the examination as a private candidate. I am happy with my marks. The reason behind appearing for the exam at this age was to set an example. My purpose has been served it is never too late to complete your education, said Kori,a resident of Rae Barelis Padmanpur Bijoli village (Udaipur). Kori came to know about the result through his son Kailash,who is settled in Lucknow. He later went to his neighbours place to check his result on the Internet. Kori was twice elected as MLA from Salon constituency in Rae Bareli on a BJP ticket. He was also minister for social welfare between 1997 and 2002. On March 22,2009,he joined the Congress and was appointed state general secretary. Kori never felt shy appearing for High School examination and sitting with young students in the exam centre. He used to take tuition at home from a private teacher and also studied in a group with other candidates from his village. I dont know the results of the other students. One of the students,who sat for the exam with me at Baijnath Inter College,called me in the afternoon to say that he had passed, said Kori. He used to go the examination centre on a Bolero,which he claimed was presented to him by AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi. As news spread of his result,locals visited his place and congratulated him on his success. Kori now plans to sit for Intermediate examinations. The Assembly elections are slated in 2012,so it could be difficult to get time to prepare. I would try to find time and appear for the Intermediate exams in 2012, he said.
