Cong’s only cheer: State chief’s win

Till 11.30 am,only about 18 people were seen around the Congress media centre,seven of whom were journalists,and three party leaders. All were watching TV as trends showed Congress with 54 seats. A couple of leaders watching TV separately blamed their leadership for the performance.

All of a sudden,the buzz was that Joshi was leading by 7,000 votes and was on her way to the party office. In 15 minutes,the party office was packed. Drums started beating,some came with flowers and sweets,waiting for their “Didi”. A Mahila Congress worker said,“We are not bothered about results in rest of UP. Our 50 per cent victory has been achieved with Ritaji’s victory”.

Joshi was welcomed with garlands and sweets were distributed. But by 1 pm,the mood changed,hopes fizzling out. Mediapersons asked,“Why not blame Rahul Gandhi?” Joshi had one answer: “He was just a campaigner,blame is on state unit,leaders and candidates.”
