CMO murders: CBI quizzes NRHM director

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday questioned senior IAS officer Pradeep Shukla,the former principal secretary of family welfare and director of the National Rural Health Mission in UP.

Shukla was questioned at the local CBI office for about three hours.

The CBI is investigating various irregularities in NRHM,and the murders of CMOs B P Singh and V K Arya and deputy CMO Dr YS Sachan,on the directions of the Allahabad High Court. All the murders took place during the tenure of Shukla,who is a 1981-batch IAS officer.

A CBI official said Shukla might be called for questioning again,if needed.

Besides Shukla,the only other man who was present in the administration throughout was former family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha,who has since been expelled from the ruling BSP.

Kushwaha resigned as minister in April,taking moral responsibility for the irregularities that surfaced during the investigation of B P Singh’s murder,while Shukla was removed and posted in the Board of Revenue.
