Immediately after taking charge as a Cabinet minister,Azam Khan had asked private doctors in his native district Rampur to reduce their consultation fee soon.
Promptly acting on the urban development ministers advice,Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Rampur Dr S K Jain held a meeting with representatives of the Indian Medical Association (IMA),Rampur unit,on March 22 and asked them to reduce their consultation fee. Dr Jain said the IMA members were very supportive and had agreed to our request. The IMA will take a final call on the issue on April 7.
During his felicitation ceremony at Qila ground in Rampur,Khan had asked private doctors to reducing their consultation fee for the benefit of poor patients. He had also appealed that private doctors should desist from advising unnecessary diagnostic tests.
President of IMAs Rampur unit,Dr P K Purohit said: Usually we doctors do not harass anyone over consultation fee. We are also a part of the society and for us treatment of poor is our duty, he said.
Meanwhile,Khans adversary Dr Tanveer Ahmed Khan,who unsuccessfully contested against him in the Assembly on Congress ticket,termed it as another way of intimidating the doctors. Khan has a record of misbehaving with people. It is also a means to insult the private doctors. This is an infringement on our personal rights, said Dr Tanveer Ahmed Khan who owns Sewa Hospital in Rampur.
