The Chief Electoral Office (CEO) in the state has decided to cross-check its recently revised electoral roll data with the population figures of the Census 2011. The data will help the electoral office get an Elector Population Ratio (EPR) and the number of people above 18 but not included in the state electoral roll.
EPR is the ratio of total number of voters and the population of a particular area. Election Commission officials said EPR of the state and districts will be found.
In this regard, the CEO has sought the population data from the Directorate of Census Operations (DCO) in UP asking to provide population of different age groups.
However, the CEO office will have to wait for few more weeks to get the desired data as the DCO office is yet to sort out the population of different age groups. Sources said the Census officials are still working out on this data and they would provide the figures to CEO only after approval on its release by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India.
The survey for population enumeration under Census 2011 was completed in February this year and according to Provisional Population Data released this month, the total population of UP is about 20 crore.
With a total registration of 10.90 crore voters in the state till November 2010,the Election Commission officials are claiming they have covered 90 per cent people above the age of 18 years.
Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha confirmed that he has sought population data of different age groups from the Census Directorate. Census survey was conducted door-to-door and so it has much accurate information about the people of age above 18 years. These figures will be compared with the data of our electoral roll that was revised in November last. It will give us the number of people who are still not included in the electoral roll, Sinha said.
The comparison of data will also help the electoral office to get the number of people who have migrated from the state in last few years,he said. After finding out the number of people missing in our electoral roll,we will make a plan to include them. For example,Form-6,necessary for enrollment as voter, would be made available at colleges, said another EC official.
