Seven police stations and four outposts for the core Naxal-affected areas
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is said to have cleared funds for the setting up of seven police stations and four outposts equipped with hi-tech facilities in the core Naxal-affected areas of Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh.
These areas are located on the borders of Jharkhand,Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
The directions for the release of Rs 8.66 crore for Sonbhadra district have been issued following a meeting of the officials of the Naxal-affected states at the MHA on Thursday.
States Inspector General (law & order) A P Maheshwari and Sonbhadra SP Preetinder Singh attended the meeting.
After Sonbhadra, such police stations will also be set up in the two Naxal-hit districts of Chandauli and Mirzapur.
A senior official at the DGPs office said the work for the construction of these police stations is expected to begin within the next two months after the funds were received by the states home department.
The new police stations to be built will be bullet-proof and grenade-proof and will have well-equipped armouries with high-security locking system and alarm system connected to the district police control room round the clock.
The official said these three-storey police station buildings would be of round shape so as to
have a commanding view of the vicinity around. Each floor will have railings to provide cover to the police force up against an attack by Naxals.
The policemen posted at these outposts will have to stay there round the clock and will be provided with accommodation and a mess in the same building.
The new police stations will be equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance gadgets, the official said.
ADG (law & order) Brij Lal refused to comment on the MHAs decision.
