The UP government has withdrawn the cases lodged against farmers of Bhatta-Parsaul village in Gautam Budh Nagar who were demanding more compensation for their acquired land during the previous Mayawati government.
In a press release issued on Friday, the government said that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav took the decision of withdrawing the cases after reviewing them at various stages.
The report submitted by the local administration mentioned that the farmers were agitating for adequate compensation of their land. It has also been stated in the official press release that the decision for withdrawing the cases was taken to save the farmers from the ordeals of court cases and in public and legal interest.
During the previous BSP government, cases were lodged against the farmers when their agitation turned violent in May 2011 at Bhatta Parsaul village. Most of the cases were lodged in Dankaur police station of Gautam Budh Nagar. The main farmer leaders who were named in the cases included Manveer Singh Tevatiya,Premveer,Kale Singh,Gaje Singh,Kiranpal,Dhan Singh and others.
During the run-up to the Assembly elections earlier this year,Akhilesh Yadav had taken a cycle yatra in the area and had announced that Samajwadi Party if comes to power will withdraw the cases against the farmers. The SP poll manifesto also promised it.
The SP government had earlier also withdrawn similar cases against the farmers of Tappal who were protesting against land acquisition in 2010.
