Car mows down two,injures four others

A retired chief engineer of UP Jal Nigam allegedly mowed down two persons with his car in Gomti Nagar on Wednesday morning.

A retired chief engineer of UP Jal Nigam allegedly mowed down two persons with his car in Gomti Nagar on Wednesday morning.

A case of causing death by negligent driving was registered against SS Kazmi,who retired in February. He complained of severe chest pain as he was being taken to the police station and was hospitalised. Police are yet to arrest him.

According to police,Kazmi was on his way home when he lost control of the car. He first hit two rickshaws and then four persons who were cooking food on the roadside in Vishal Khand locality.

The two rickshaw-pullers died. The four injured labourers were rushed to hospital and discharged later.

“After the accident,locals caught hold of Kazmi and were taking him to the police station when he complained of pain in the chest. They took him to a hospital where he was admitted in ICU,” said Abhimanyu Dhar Dwivedi,SO,Gomti Nagar.

“Kazmi has not been taken into custody so far,but policemen are keeping an eye on him at the hospital. He will be arrested after he is discharged,” said Gyananjay Singh,Circle Officer,Gomti Nagar.

“Kazmi has been diagnosed with high blood pressure. He is under observation in the ICU,” said B L Anand,administrator of Nova Hospital,where Kazmi is admitted.

The deceased were identified as Tilak Ram (23) and Uma Kant (38),natives of Bahraich and Sitapur respectively. The injured were identified as Vidya,Balram,Vinod and Nannhe.
