Cantt area to get a sewerage system soon

The Cantonment Board has sought the help of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation to build a sewerage plan for the Cantt.

The Cantonment Board has sought the help of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to build a sewerage plan for the Cantt. An area with a population of 40,000,till date,the Cantt has no sewerage system.

“We have asked the LMC to include our area under the sewerage plan being formulated as part of JNNURM,” said Rachel Koshy,Chief Executive Officer of Cantonment Board.

The Board had written to the civic body in this regard last December. “We are yet to receive a response. We have even sent them a reminder this month,” added Koshy.

“We are preparing a proposal for a sewerage plan of the city. The proposal is being drafted and will be submitted by September. Once the government approves the inclusion of the Cantonment Board in our proposal,we will go ahead with it,” said a senior LMC official.

Entry fee for vehicles
The Cantonment Board will charge entry fee from heavy and light commercial vehicles plying in the area from Friday. The fee will be charged from 11 pre-designated entry points for a year.

“We are levying the Octroi Tax for the first time in Cantt. The commercial vehicle will have to pay the fee each time it enters the specified entry points,” said Brigadier S Ahmed Ali,Commander Lucknow Sub Area.

However,vehicles being used for private purpose or carrying funeral parties will be exempted from paying the fee. Similarly,vehicles belonging to the Central and state government,public sector undertaking (except passenger buses run by UPSRTC),Cantonment Board,person and properties exempted under Section 3 of Indian Tolls (Army and air Force) Act,1901 (2 of 1901) — will not have to pay the fee.

Even vehicles deployed in poll duty,ambulances,buses carrying school students,licensed taxis,three wheeler tempos transporting passengers and tractors being used solely for agricultural purposes will not have to pay tax.

The 11 entry points are Mahatma Gandhi Marg,Kunwar Jagdish Marg,Cariappa Marg,near Loco workshop,Kunwar Jagdish Marg,Nehru Road,katai ka Pul Chowraha,Mahatma Gandhi Marg,Vikramaditya Marg,Sultanpur Road and Neelmatha Marg.
