BSP harassing us: BPD leader

Bharat Punarnirman Dal (BPD) candidate for Lucknow constituency,Ravi Shanakar Bharat,on Sunday accused the state government of harassing his party members.

Bharat Punarnirman Dal (BPD) candidate for Lucknow constituency,Ravi Shanakar Bharat,on Sunday accused the state government of harassing his party members.

According to Bharat, under pressure from the BSP government, the district administration and the police were not allowing his party workers to hold public meetings and take out processions.

He added that the Hazratganj police had detained his supporters on Saturday when they were on their way to hold a public meeting near Parivartan Chowk,as they did not have a prior permission from the administration.

“I had submitted applications seeking permissions for public meetings and campaigning programmes on April 7. I was granted permission for one programme on April 12,but came to know about it later. For Saturday’s meeting,we were assured that we will get permission. But it was denied at the eleventh hour,” Shankar said.

Party general secretary Marut Bharat said,“Other parties like BSP,BJP,and SP are regularly getting permission for their programmes. The state government wants to suppress us because it fears our agenda which focuses on eradication of caste-based politics.”
