HC rejects plea on maintenance of ghats
Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL in which the approval given to NGOs for cleaning and maintaining around a dozen ghats on the banks of the Ganga in Varanasi was challenged. The court said that the petition,which feared that such an arrangement would impact the rights of common people to use the ghats,was premature. The petition was filed by Gauri Shankar Pandey,a social worker.
LU suspends 10 students
Lucknow: Lucknow University on Tuesday suspended 10 students over violence in its new campus,which erupted during National Students of India elections. An FIR was registered by Soumitra Verma,a law student in fourth semester,according to Proctor Pawan Agarwal. Two groups clashed during NSUI polling in which Manish Singh Gautam,a law student,allegedly attacked and injured Soumitra Verma, Agarwal said.
BJP,RLD to protest for sugarcane dues
Lucknow: To protest against delay in payment of sugarcane dues pending with sugar mills,the BJP and RLD will stage protests on April 15. While BJP has announced dharna at the offices of district sugarcane offices in sugarcane growing areas,RLD will demonstrate at all district headquarters and send memorandums to the governor.
