The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Rajnath Singh has directed the party UP unit to hold meetings of the state core committee every month and look ahead for Lok Sabha elections preparation with consensus of all the leaders.
In compliance of this directive, the party state unit is going to hold the first meeting of the core group in Lucknow on May 4 when various important decisions would be taken regarding the selection of Lok Sabha candidates, upcoming public meetings and other future course of the action regarding poll preparations in the state of UP,where Rajnath has set the target to win at least 40 Lok Sabha seats.
The core group meeting on May 4 will be attended by party national vice-presidents Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi,Satpal Malik, general secretary Varun Gandhi, secretary Vinod Pandey, state president Laxmikant Bajpai and partys all former state presidents.
A member of the national team from UP said,The party national president has asked to hold meetings of the core group at least once every month so that senior leaders are informed about the partys activities in the state and they could also give their suggestions about that.
According to sources, after receiving directive of holding meeting of core group on May 4 and take consent of other leaders, the party state unit has put on hold the exercise of collecting feedback from workers and general public about prospective candidates of Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier,in a meeting of office-bearers on April 10,the party state unit had decided to form 23 teams to visit all 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in April and give their feedback about possible Lok Sabha candidates by end of the month. The state leadership had to forward the list of prospective candidates to the central leadership in May.
When contacted, party state president Laxmikant Bajpai denied the reports that the exercise of collecting feedback about possible candidates has been put on hold. These teams are active and have already achieved 25 per cent of their task, Bajpai said, adding that the meeting of May 4 would be a routine affair.
But state office-bearers who are member of these teams denied Bajpais claim and said that they have not been provided the list of constituencies where they would have to visit. We will probably visit the Lok Sabha constituencies after the May 4 meeting when the senior leaders of core group will give nod to the proposed strategy for selection of candidates and other election preparations, said a party state general secretary.
A party state vice-president said,We are busy in strengthening the organisational setup at present. Presidents in five districts are yet to be declared whereas booth-level and mandal-level committees have to constituted across the state by April 30. Collection of feedback for Lok Sabha candidates would be started in May only. Ballia,Basti,Sant Ravidas Nagar,Allahabad district and Allahabad Mahanagar are district units of BJP where presidents are yet to be nominated.
