Citing the murder of gram pradhan and subsequent killing of nine people in Degai village in Maharajganj as the latest example of lawlessness in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that jungleraj continues to prevail in Uttar Pradesh. The party has demanded the resignation of UP Chief Minister Mayawati for her failure to control law and order in the state.
The partys state president Surya Pratap Shahi addressed the media on the issue in the state capital on Saturday. Addressing the media persons,Shahi said the Maharajganj incident, where a village head was shot dead and later nine people were subsequently burnt alive in Degai village on Friday,is a blot on the state government and proves the rule of terror continues to prevail in the state.
He even mentioned the Fatehpur incident, where a man was allegedly torched during a police raid and also the murder of three members of a family in Jaunpur. Shahi said the BSP government in UP has failed in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities. The Chief minister should tender her resignation for her failure to control the lawlessness in UP. And if she does not do so,the Centre should dismiss the government, Shahi said.
The party will initiate a major agitation against the government. Shahi said after receiving the report about these incidents from the fact-finding committees of the party, the strategy of the agitation would be planned.
