Fifteen farmers from Bhatta Parsaul, who were detained in Dasna Jail, were granted bail by a district court on Wednesday.

Fifteen farmers from Bhatta Parsaul, who were detained in Dasna Jail, were granted bail by a district court on Wednesday.

Statements of the IG (Meerut) and Police Commissioner were also included in the police case diary. The decision to grant bail to the remaining farmers was reserved for the next hearing,to be conducted in a couple of days.

Defence lawyer Bhartendu Tomar said the delay in delivering justice to the farmers has disheartened their kin. “The police had not even prepared their case diary in the last hearing, which is why another hearing was officiated. But now we expect everybody to get bail since the statements of those involved have been recorded. The farmers’ families are awaiting their return,” he said.

As many as 22 people have been arrested and lodged in Dasa Jail in connection with the farmers’ agitation in Greater Noida, facing charges of rioting, assault and attempted murder, among others. So far, three hearings have already been conducted in this regard. Officials have assured the farmers’ families that they will not be tried unless proof is furnished. “We expect the arrested men to return soon because we know they are innocent and deserve a chance to return to their normal lives. Without them around, their families are suffering with no income or hope,” said Vijay Kumar,a resident of the village.
