One of Asia’s largest sewage treatment plants built at Bharwara in Lucknow,is likely to start functioning on Friday. Jal Nigam officials said the plant will initially treat 115-million litre sewage per day ¿ about one-third of its capacity of 435 million litres. The project will be fully functional by the end of July.

Pumping of water from the main station at Gwari culvert in Gomti Nagar will be done in the morning as a final test.

The capacity of the canal pumping station is 158 MLD and it will pump the sewage of cis-Gomti areas. From the canal pumping station, the sewage would reach the MPS,from where it will reach the STP in Bharwara in seven hours.

Jal Nigam had conducted a successful trial of the canal pumping station in May. The trial of the MPS was conducted last week.

During testing,it was found that the pumps were working properly but there were leakages in supply pipes at certain places. These leakages were repaired on Wednesday and Thursday.

Officials said the installation of pumping sets at another station near Baikunth Dham would be completed by June-end.
