From 206 MLAs in 2007 to struggling to reach even 100 this time,it was a steep fall for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). And the silence at 12 Mall Avenue, the party office here,on Tuesday said it all. The party office looked deserted, and its gates remained closed for most of the day.
With exit polls predicting BSP as the biggest loser, there was no anticipation for results at the office. There were no leaders,no candidates,no enthusiastic workers at the office when the trends started appearing on news channels by 8.30 am. Not even when the early trends showed the BSP and Congress at third and fourth places behind SP and BJP.
At 13 Mall Avenue,Mayaw-atis residence,a few cars arrived at the time when the BSP surged ahead of BJP,but as the tally of its leads got stuck before reaching 100,these arrivals too stopped. The party office wore the same look till afternoon when the BSP,as per trends, was struggling not to slip below 80 seats.
As the trends showed SP surging ahead of 190,PAC personnel arrived to boost security at Mayawatis residence. The BSP ouster was apparent by afternoon but there was still no reaction from the party. Mediapersons camping outside the party office were now waiting for Mayawati to emerge from her house and leave for Raj Bhawan to submit her resignation.
