After a months closure following protests over a students killing,the Aligarh Muslim University re-opened on Tuesday and university authorities said classes will resume in different faculties in a phased manner.
On Tuesday,classes started in the faculty of Medicine,Unani Medicine,Engineering & Technology,Management,Life Sciences,Bio-technology,Agricultural Science and Class XII,along with the university maintained schools from nursery to Class X.
Classes for Faculty of Science,Commerce and Law will commence from December 4. Classes in the Faculty of Arts,Social Sciences,Theology,along with Class XI and Diploma in Engineering will be starting from December 8.
University was closed for an indefinite period on October 30 following protests by the students over the killing of Sahanawaz Alam,a BSc III-year student of university.
To minimise the loss of working days,the university had advanced winter vacations that started on November 15 and ended on November 30 this year.
University spokesperson Rahat Abrar said students were received by National Social Service (NSS) volunteers at railways stations and special conveyances were provided for them to reach the hostels.
