Allahabad: Rape ‘victim’,family traced

The girl has now been sent for medical examination. Efforts are also on to trace the accused. The incident had been reported from Palain village under Nawabganj police station on Allahabad-Pratapgarh border last week.

Superintendent of Police (Trans-Ganga),Shafiq Ahmed,said: “We have traced the girl who had gone to stay in the house of a relative. We had to convince the victim’s relatives to take legal recourse. They led us to the place where she was staying.”

The police added that its case would be strengthened further as the girl is not completely dumb. “It is not that the girl cannot speak at all as has been reported so far. She has a speech problem. Once her medical examination and age-related examination is complete,we will get her statement recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before the magistrate. This will help us in taking a stand in the court,” said Station Officer (Nawabganj) V K Singh Bhadauria,who is also the Investigating Officer in the case. Bhadauria added that efforts were also on to trace the accused.

The police had been claiming that the parents of the victim were not interested in pursuing the case legally. However,the police managed to convince one of the victim’s uncles to get a formal complaint lodged on the basis of which an FIR was registered.

The girl was allegedly raped by two young men on June 12 night.
