Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed integrated terminal at Chaudhary Charan Singh airport in Amausi and emphasised on the need for developing aviation sector in UP. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was also present at the function.

The Union Minister said the Centre wants to increase flight connectivity in UP by expanding existing airports and air strips. “But there are hurdles in availability of land,” he said and urged Akhilesh to change the state’s existing land acquisition policy and adopt the Centre’s policy.

Singh said UP has only two customs airport — at Lucknow and Varanasi — which would be given the status of international airports soon and added there was a proposal of maintenance, overhaul and repair facility in UP,which could attract an investment of 200 to 300 million US dollars.

Akhilesh has, however, raised questions over the planning of the new integrated terminal building of the Amausi airport.

The CM said the new terminal building looks good but it has only two aerobridges. “I have been informed that around 26 flights operate from here every day. Only two aerobridges would not be sufficient. In that situation, passengers will have to travel between runway to terminal building by traditional buses.” He asked the airport authorities to redesign the building and increase aerobridges,if possible.
