Ahead of Bareilly rally,SP gets a snub from dargah

‘Use fund for riot victims’: Cleric on shrine beautification proposal .

Badaun MP Dharmendra Yadav got a cold shoulder at the dargah (shrine) of Imam Ahmed Raza Khan in Bareilly, commonly known as Aala Hazrat, where he had gone to seek support for the SP’s ‘Desh Bachao,Desh Banao’ rally Thursday.

Subhan Raza Khan alias Subhani Miyan, the successor of Aala Hazrat and sajjadanashin of the shrine told Dharmendra Yadav, who is the convenor of the rally, that Muslims need safety and security in the wake of the Muzaffarnagar riots instead of free laptops being distributed by the state government.

He also turned down Yadav’s proposal for budget allocation for beautification of shrine of Aala Hazrat — with the suggestion that the funds should rather be given to Muzaffarnagar riot victims.

Sensing the tough posture of Subhani Miyan, who holds much clout among Barelvi sect of Sunni Muslims,Yadav called up SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in Lucknow.

Mulayam reportedly had a telephonic conversation with Subhani Miyan and assured him to consider his demands.

“Yadav had met Subhani Miyan at his residence and apprised him of the proposed rally in Bareilly. There was no assurance of support from our side. Subhani Miyan categorically raised the issue of security of Muslims and told Dharmendra that Muslims need security first and not laptops,” Nasir Qureshi, the media incharge of Aala Hazrat Dargah told The Indian Express.

“Later,we also turned down the proposal for budget allocation for beautification of shrine of Aala Hazrat with a suggestion that it should be given to Muzaffarnagar riot victims,” Qureshi stated.

After Subhan Raza Khan’s cold shoulder response,Dharmendra Yadav informed Mulayam Singh at Lucknow. SP president Mulayam had telephonic conversation with Subhan Raza Khan and assured him of personal audience. “Mulayam Singh has assured for meeting Subhani Miyan and to seriously consider the issues raised by us,” Qureshi stated. Later,Dharmendra Yadav headed to meet Tasleem Raza Khan, the younger brother of Subhan Raza Khan at his residence. Sources claimed that Dharmendra even failed to extract any assurance from him also during the meeting.

Dharmendra left the Dargah campus after offering a chadar at the shrine of Aala Hazrat. He also visited several other shrines in Bareilly city and met the clerics personally.

SP is soft towards Bareillvi Muslims and had already bestowed minister of state status to two of them. Abid Khan, the personal staff of Subhan Raza Khan has been appointed as Vice Chairman of National Integration Council while Tauqeer Raza Khan, the brother of Subhan Raza Khan, has been appointed as advisor in State Handloom Corporation.
