After its debacle in the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP is now on the lookout for party workers who played a role in the defeat of its candidates.
A list of such party workers is being made and will be placed before Arun Jaitley, general secretary in-charge of UP,who is expected to come to Lucknow by this weekend. According to sources, the party has already identified some 10 such constituencies where the party fared poorly because of internal bickering.
Complaints have been received from constituencies like Kanpur, where the fight for the ticket between Satish Mahana and Satyadev Pachauri spilled over to the election and damaged the party chances. BJP candidate Mahana lost to Shriprakash Jaiswal of the Congress. In Akbarpur,as soon as the ticket was given to a new entrant like Arun Baba, the district unit workers started breaking party rules just to create hurdles for the candidate. Similarly, there was a virtual revolt in Allahabad against Yogesh Shukla, who was contesting his first election. Other constituencies from where complaints have come include Sant Kabir Nagar from where state party president Ramapati Ram Tripathis son Sharad Tripathi was contesting. The list also includes Basti,Bulandshahr,Aligarh,Bhadohi and Kaiserganj. Hero Bajpayi, party press secretary, said this was the first time when complaints of this nature had come after an election.
We are compiling the complaints so that Jaitley and Kalraj Mishra can discuss the matter with the candidates. They will be discussing with those against whom complaints have been made before deciding the necessary actions, said Bajpayi.
Cong too will review
Following complaints from some of the candidates, the Congress party has decided to review its performance in each of these constituencies. The review will take place in four phases; the first two phases will include 29 constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh and would take place on May 22 and 23 at the AICC headquarters,New Delhi. For the remaining 41 constituencies, the review will take place in Lucknow on May 25 and May 26.
