7 IIT-BHU students suspended for ragging

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has suspended seven Indian Institute of Technology-BHU students following an inquiry into a ragging complaint.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has suspended seven Indian Institute of Technology-BHU students following an inquiry into a ragging complaint.

“On September 11,Prateek Mukhijia,a first year student of electrical engineering had filed a ragging complaint wherein he alleged that he was made to strip. An inquiry was conducted and a decision was taken on Wednesday by the anti-ragging committee,” said BHU spokesperson Rajesh Singh. Harsh Kumar Lath,Rishabh Mishra,Rahul Sharma,Manish Jindal,Harish Kumar Gupta,Ashish Yadav and Sahil Sirohi were found guilty by the committee. They are second-year students of electrical engineering and residents of Dhanraj Giri hostel. They have also been fined Rs 5,000 each,removed from the hostel,their semester seized,they cannot apply for campus placement and cannot utilise any of the academic facilities.
