5 chargesheeted in ammunition pilferage case

The Rampur Superintendent of Police,Ramit Sharma,said the chargesheet has been filed against five accused including the CRPF men — Vinod Paswan and Vinesh Singh — and the kingpin of the racket,Yashoda Nand Singh,a retired sub-inspector of UP Police.

Others were Nathi Ram Saini and Ram Krishna,who were keepers of weapon stores at Moradabad police training centre and the Reserve Police Lines of Ballia district respectively.

The chargesheet was submitted in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate,Rampur.

The SHO of the Civil Lines police station,Raees Pal Singh,is the investigating officer (IO) of the case. He said the persons named are accused of exchanging empty cartridges with live cartridges from the weapon stores they were posted in.

The IO has attached statements of the accused in which they have confessed to their offence. Officials at the CRPF Group Centre at Rampur had recently sent a report to the Rampur police,claiming that the 230 tonnes of empty shells at the weapon store were found intact and no shells were missing in the stock.

The Special Task Force had arrested the two CRPF men posted at the Central Weapon Store of the CRPF Group Centre along with the retired sub-inspector and four other UP Police personnel for the alleged pilferage of cartridges and shells on April 30. The STF had recovered 245 kgs of empty shells and 5,000 live cartridges from the possession of the accused.
