A 430 member UP contingent will be participating in the National Games to be held at Jharkhand from February 12. The first group comprising of 191 players and 43 officials will be leaving for the National Games on February 10. The UP Olympic Association (UPOA) will give them a send-off at 10.00 am on Thursday at KD Singh Babu Stadium,Lucknow. Secretary general UPOA Anandeshwar Pandey informed that teams of taekwondo,swimming,volleyball,kabaddi,sepak takraw,hockey,karate do,tennis, gymnastics,shooting,rowing,squash and wushu will be leaving for Jharkhand on Thursday while teams of athletics,wrestling,table-tennis,judo,kho-kho,boxing,weightlifting,netball,kayaking-canoeing and triathlon will be departing as per their respective schedules. The trials to select the UP womens hockey team were held at Lucknow on Wednesday. 37 girls participated in the two-hour long trials. The team will be announced on Thursday. The UP volleyball and triathlon teams for the National Games were announced on Wednesday.
The volleyball team includes: Reshu Tomar,Pooja Rani,Namrata Singh,Khushboo Pandey,Neha Singh,Reshu,Anshu Rani,Preeti Raghuvanshi,Samreen,Innama,Mahavir Raza,Nisha; Coach: Bhanu Prasad; Manager: PS Gill.
The UP triathlon team includes: Men: Suit Dhar Dubey (Lko),Pitamber Chauhan (Kushinagar),Abhijeet Chauhan (Lko),Anshuman Shukla (Lko); Women: Ankita Chauhan (Kushinagar),Mamta Bharti (Kushinagar),Nitu Madanwal (Kushinagar),Swati Awasthi (Kanpur)
