4 crore voters missing in UP electoral roll, most vote for BJP: Yogi Adityanath

Asking party workers to reach out to every voter in their booths in the remaining 12 days of the SIR exercise to get enumerated, the chief minister said that the population of Uttar Pradesh is about 25 crore, out of which about 65 per cent should be voters, including those who are turning 18 years.

“As per this calculation, the number of voters should be around 16 crore. But in the SIR counting so far, it has come to around 12 crore only,” he said.

Last week, the Election Commission extended the deadline for the SIR in UP to December 26 after a request from the state Chief Electoral Officer.

“Election is contested from the booths… This is an opportunity. Raise objections against fake names in every booth. Get missing names included,” Adityanath told workers, adding that if they “do the hard work today, then your three-fourths work of the election will be completed, clearing the way for our victory in at least three-fourths seats”.

Alleging that Opposition parties have got “Bangladeshis” registered as voters, he told party workers, “There is still time to add and remove names.”

Taking the cue from the CM, Chaudhary also urged party cadres to prioritise booth-level duties related to the SIR to ensure that the names of eligible voters were not deleted from the voters’ list.

“I would like to request you all to leave important work aside and focus on the SIR in the coming days. We need to go to the booth to ensure that the name of our voters is not cut,” he told party workers.

Speaking to mediapersons earlier, Chaudhary said action against infiltrators was necessary. “No one could accept infiltrators.”

Later, Adityanath also called on party workers to celebrate the birth centenary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25 across the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Lucknow on December 25 to inaugurate “Rashtriya Prerna Sthal” that houses 65-ft-tall statues of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, and Deen Dayal Upadhaya, and a museum dedicated to Sangh ideologies.
