A court in Basti has sentenced seven persons, including two former MLAs Sanjay Prasad Jaiswal and Aditya Vikram Singh, to three years of imprisonment for misbehaving with government officials during the 2003 MLC election.

According to District Government Counsel (Basti) PN Pandey, the seven convicts, who were all out on bail, moved an application in the court seeking time to file an appeal against the judgment. “The court released all the convicts on bail,” Pandey said.

The case dates back to 2003 when Aditya Vikram’s wife Kanchana Singh was contesting the MLC election on a Samajwadi Party ticket.
