The Lucknow police arrested two persons for allegedly duping a murder accused of Rs 2 lakh after assuring him that his case would be transferred to the CB-CID for investigation.
The accused,Sushil Kumar Srivastava and Abhay Singh Chauhan, forged the letterhead of Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Net Ram bearing the order for the transfer of the case and handed it over to the murder accused,Devaki Nandan.
The forged letter carried the fake stamp and principal secretarys signature.
A murder case was filed against Nandan in January,2009 in Mathura and he had contacted the accused to get the case transferred to the CB-CID.
Srivastava was suspended from the post of review officer in 2003. He was suspended after few important files went missing from his possession.
During his 18-years service,Srivastava was posted as review officer at Home,Planning and Health departments.
According to police,Nandan came in contact with Abhay Singh,a resident of Etah,in July,2009 through his relative in Etah.
Abhay assured him that he would get his murder case investigation transferred to CB-CID. A couple of days later,Abhay introduced Nandan to Srivastava.
The accused took the money from Nandan and in October they gave him a fake recommendation letter, said Amar Singh Raghuvanshi,in-charge of Aliganj police station.
The fake letterhead was never sent to any government department. The accused gave a photocopy of the forged letter to Nandan after taking the money, added Raghuvanshi.
After receiving the photocopy of the letter,Nandan cross-checked the development of the case and found that no such order was sent to the Mathura police.
Nandan then approached the Lucknow police and registered a case against both the persons, said Paresh Pandey,Additional Superintendent of Police,Trans Gomti.
Following a tip-off,the Lucknow police arrested the accused from Puraniya locality of Aliganj.
