Young voters will prove to be a deciding factor these Assembly elections in the state as more than 27 per cent of voters in the state this time are under 30 years.
As per the figures given by the CEO,West Bengal,1.56 crore of the total 5.60 crore voters in the state are below 30 years.
While both the Left Front and the Congress-Trinamool alliance have fielded young candidates, political analyst point out the parties will also have to direct their campaign towards these voters to derive the benefit.
Since a number of the voters have not seen any rule other than the Left, campaigns by the Left on the situation during the Congress rule in 1972-1977 will not appeal to the majority of the voters, said Sabyasachi Basu Roy Chowdhury, professor and head of department of Political Science at Rabindra Bharati University.
He says the issues like industrialisation, development and the language policy of the Left rule where English was not taught at primary classes is the issue that would appeal to these voters.
The youth under the age of 30 would look for new ideas from parties, said Amiya Chaudhuri,a political analyst. He said new voters can also be influenced by the anti-incumbency factor.
