Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira Banerjee on Wednesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at its office in the Salt Lake area in connection with the school jobs scam in West Bengal.
On October 4, the ED had issued a summons to Rujira to appear before its officials on Wednesday. Responding to the summons, Rujira reached the ED office at around 10.58 am.
This is the first time that Rujira has been summoned by the ED in connection with the school jobs scam. Earlier, she had been questioned by the ED in connection with the coal pilferage case.
The school jobs scam involves alleged irregularities in the recruitment process through which thousands of jobs in state-run schools were given to undeserving candidates in exchange for money.
The ED had claimed that a company named Leaps and Bounds had received kickbacks in the scam. Abhishek Banerjee and certain other members of his family had served as directors of the company in the past. The Calcutta High Court had directed ED to furnish the property details of the directors of the company.
Meanwhile, summons were also issued to Abhishek Banerjee, his mother Lata Banerjee and his father Amit Banerjee to appear before the ED last week. However, none of them turned up at the ED office.
