West Bengal Lok Sabha election results: Initial trends show TMC leading in 32 seats, BJP in 9

Initial trends in the West Bengal Lok Sabha election results show TMC candidates Abhishek Banerjee, Sayoni Ghosh, Partha Bhowmik and Mahua Moitra leading, among others.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is leading in 32 seats in West Bengal as compared to the BJP, which is leading in nine seats, and the Congress in one, initial trends for the state’s 42 Lok Sabha seats showed on Tuesday after three to four rounds of counting.

While the TMC’s two-time MP Abhishek Banerjee has a comfortable lead of over 96,000 votes from the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, the party’s Sayoni Ghosh is leading in the Jadavpur constituency with over 20,000 votes.

Among the other TMC candidates who are leading are Partha Bhowmik, who is contesting against BJP’s Arjun Singh in Barrackpore, Mahua Moitra in Krishnanagar, Kalyan Banerjee in Serampore,  Sudip Banerjee in Kolkata Uttar and Kakali Ghosh Dastidar in Barasat.

Among the BJP candidates in the lead are S S Ahluwalia in Asansol, Shantanu Thakur in Bongaon, Saumitra Khan in Bishnupur and Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato in Purulia.

BJP state president Sukanta Majumder in Balurghat, former BJP state president Dilip Ghosh in Bardhaman, minister of state for home Nishith Pramanik in Coochbehar, BJP candidate Manoj Tigga in Alipurduar and BJP candidate in Basirhat, Rekha Patra, are the candidates who are trailing, but with low margins.

Congress candidate Adhir Chowdhury is trailing by around 3,000 votes and cricketer-turned-TMC candidate Yusuf Pathan is leading in Baharampur. Congress candidate Isha Khan Chowdhury is leading in the Malda Dakshin seat.
