Two CPM workers were allegedly shot dead in separate incidents of clash in Mangolkot and Jamuria areas of Burdwan district on Saturday.
According to sources,Bhim Tiwari (22),a CPM worker was shot dead around 4 pm today in Jamuria,the coal belt in Burdwan,after two groups clashed over extortion in the area. A senior police official said,Around 3.30 pm,the workers of Trinamool and CPM clashed over a dispute over extorting money from a woman in the area. This led to exchange of fire in which Bhim Tiwari,22-year-old CPM worker,was killed.
The official said the woman has been rescued and brought to the police station. We are investigating into the matter and started a murder and rioting case, added the official.
In another incident,Narayan Das (33),a CPM worker and a farmer of Kulunga village in Mangolkot police station area of the same district,was shot dead today around 2 pm after a group of Trinamool men attacked the village and ransacked the houses of several CPM workers and supporters.
The incident is believed to be an incident of retaliation after Mihir Das,a Trinamool worker of the village went missing on Friday. Late Friday night,the villagers found Dass pair of shoes,and clothes in the pool of blood. However,his body is yet to be recovered.
Today,Trinamool workers attacked the village and ransacked houses of the CPM supporters and workers in the area. Narayan Das,a CPM supporter,who had fled from his house and hid himself in a nearby field,was shot in his head by the TMC men.
Humayun Kabir,SP,Burdwan,said,We have received reports of the murder and clash that broke out in Jamuria. Raids are on in the area. I am also investigating into the incident of killing in Kulunga village.
He said eight persons have been arrested for their involvement in the clash.
