TS Sivagnanam sworn in as new HC Chief Justice
Banerjee said, ” It was an honour to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Hon’ble Shri Justice T.S. Sivagnanam as the Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta.”

JUSTICE T S Sivagnanam on Thursday took oath as new Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. The oath was administered by Governor CV Ananda Bose. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Banerjee said, ” It was an honour to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Hon’ble Shri Justice T.S. Sivagnanam as the Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta.”
”I express my hearty congratulations and convey my best wishes to him for this new beginning,” she added.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari also participated in the programme. The Centre had notified the appointment of Justice TS Sivagnanam, the senior-most judge of the Calcutta High Court, as the Chief Justice of the High Court. Until recently, he was serving as the acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium (SCC) on February 9 recommended Justice Sivagnanam’s name for the post of Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
Describing the judiciary as the “custodian of the Constitution”, the Chief Minister said, ”The judiciary is of utmost importance in preserving democracy, maintaining freedom of speech, and restoring peace.”
“We have the highest regard for our judiciary, and I extend my warm regards for their invaluable contributions towards upholding the Rule of Law and ensuring justice for people,” Banerjee added.
