Trinamool to contest LS polls in Assam,Tripura: Roy

Many leaders and workers of Forward Bloc joined the TMC in Jalpaiguri,a stronghold of the prominent constituent of the Left Front.

The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal will be fielding candidates in Assam and Tripura during the general elections next year,a senior party leader hinted Thursday.

“We received a huge response from people when we held conventions in these two states,” TMC general secretary Mukul Roy said in Jalpaiguri,adding that the party will do considerably good in the upcoming Parliamentary election in the north east states.

The party has already tested waters in some parts of north India and has been trying to extend its wings in the North East ever since it came to power in Bengal in 2011.

“In 2011,we won as people were disgusted with the CPM. Since then,we have won in all other elections too. It happened because people have faith in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In the last two years,several leaders from other parties have joined our party,” he added.

Meanwhile,many leaders and workers of Forward Bloc today joined the TMC in Jalpaiguri,a stronghold of the prominent constituent of the Left Front.

“Prabal Raha,state committee member,Shubhankar Mishra,state secretary of Chatra Bloc,the students’ wing of the party and a number of other leaders and workers of Forward Bloc joined TMC today,” Roy said.

Prithwis Bagchi,North 24-Parganas district committee member of the Forward Bloc also joined the TMC.
