TMC wrests Basirhat Block II panchayat

With the crossover,the Trinamool now has 11 members on the panchayat board,CPM 3 and the Congress 5.

The panchayat pradhan of Rajendrapur under Basirhat Block II panchayat along with four supporters Saturday crossed over to the Trinamool Congress from the CPI(M) giving TMC control over the panchayat board held by its rival. Food minister Jyotipriyo Mallick,observer for North 24-Parganas,said the panchayat pradhan of Rajendrapur,Kabir Rehman,of the CPI(M) crossed over to the TMC along with four of his supporters in the presence of Trinamool Congress district president Nirmal Ghosh and himself. With the crossover,the Trinamool now has 11 members on the panchayat board,CPM 3 and the Congress 5.

Graffiti on SSKM walls to be banned

Graffiti on the walls of state-run SSKM Hospital will be banned shortly and legal action will be taken against those flouting it. The decision was taken after a meeting of the Patient Welfare Committee,Transport minister Madan Mitra said Saturday in the capacity of the body’s working president. He said the decision will help in the beautification project of the hospital,which would be underway soon. The ban would also be extended to other hospitals like Sambhunath Pandit Hospital and Bangur Institute of Neurology (BIN). Mitra also said BIN would no longer remain a referral hospital and patients could directly walk in without any reference from other health care centres.
