A day after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked the Centre for violating the federal principle by unilaterally ordering NIA probe into the Burdwan blast case, her party, the Trinamool Congress, on Saturday said the BJP was trying to use the Burdwan incident for political gains and attacked the Modi government for failing to prevent infiltration across international borders.

The party also accused the Centre of responding late despite the state government’s report to the Union Home Ministry giving all details of the Burdwan blast.

“The actions initiated by the BJP so far is politically motivated,” said TMC spokesperson Partha Chatterjee and added that curbing the infiltration across the international borders is the responsibility of central forces, apparently to explain the Bangladesh link to the Burdwan blast.

If infiltration continues to be a problem, it is because the central agencies are failing to stop it, Chatterjee said and added that the responsibility for any outcome out of such infiltration rests with the Centre.

He also asked if Burdwan blast was a fit case for NIA investigation then why did the Union government take so much time to decide on it. The state government had sent its report to the centre immediately after the incident and the Centre’s response should have been faster.
