There’s jungle raj in Bengal, TMC has murdered democracy: Nadda

“The kind of violence that took place in the recent panchayat elections has reminded us of the violence which took place during India’s independence struggle. Mamata Banerjee’s party workers, who should be called goons, unleashed a reign of terror during the election. Our party workers were prevented from filing nominations, their family members were beaten up, rampant electoral malpractices took place on the day of polling and violence also took place on the day of counting.  The police not only remained inactive but also threatened our workers when they went to lodge complaints. In a nutshell, the TMC murdered democracy in Bengal. The democratic set up here has been converted into a jungle raj. Despite such a situation, our workers won a large number of seats,” said Nadda.

The BJP leader is on a two-day trip to Bengal and will be attending a host of programmes. At Science City, Nadda met party leaders who won during the panchayat elections in Bengal and also interacted with party workers and their family members who were victims of poll-related violence.

The BJP national president also took a dig at the chief minister for pretending to be a “champion of democracy” when atrocities were allegedly being carried out against people of her own state. He also lashed out at Banerjee for seeking “evidence” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he spoke about the poll violence in Bengal.
