One thing that didn’t miss anyone’s notice during the platinum jubilee celebration of the state Assembly was the absence of former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. It was not as if the Left had boycotted the event. Left Front stalwarts like former Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim were present at the function. According to CPM sources,Bhattacharjee didn’t go as he was not invited at all. It’s up to the Speaker now to explain why the former CM was not invited on such an occasion.

Turn of fortune

Minister for Water Resource Development Soumen Mahapatra seemed to have been counting his days in the Cabinet as his performance was not satisfactory to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. But in a turn of fortune,Mamata in the last Cabinet meeting was all praise for his work,particularly the fulfilment of the government’s policy of jal dhoro jal bhoro (collect water,preserve water) programme.
