Are slums the latest mojo in entertainment? UTV Bindass is coming up with a reality show Switch, which will take rich kids to slums. The CEO of the channel Zarina Mehta (left) says,The show will try to bring about life-changing experiences for both the rich and the poor by bringing them together.
She adds,The concept of the show is fairly simple 12 rich youngsters will be partnered with 12 youngsters from an underprivileged background and they will stay in a slum for 14 days and 14 nights. Together they will complete a number of tasks like collecting garbage, cleaning toilets and making dung cakes which is a part of everyday life there. But the larger task involved is that each rich participant will help his/her poorer partners dream come true which could be anything building a house for their family or meeting Shah Rukh Khan.
The production details are still under wraps although Mehta does reveal that the show will begin production once the monsoons have abated. The casting is going on right now and so far weve confirmed two participants. Others will be handpicked from across India. While the underprivileged participants will win prizes for the completion of tasks, the richer ones wont. Theyre not in this for themselves. For them, this will be about experiencing a different kind of life. So the profile for these participants will extend from middle-class to super rich. Also, they wont all be spoilt brats. We have to have a wider range, since there has to be some drama on the show, says Mehta.
Like all reality shows in India,Switch will have its share of celebrities. We do plan to have celebrities come on the show and talk to the participants. Weve spoken to a number of them. John Abraham has confirmed. However, this time, the audience wont have much say in who stays on the show and who goes. The elimination will be decided by the contestants themselves, says Mehta.
